ACAA COMMISSIONER’S REPORT 2006/07
Another fine season of small college basketball
ended with the CCAA Men’s Nationals at the NSAC. I want to congratulate Paul
Debelie, Peter Phipps, Chris Ross,
We had 26 officials working league games this past year, including newcomer, Geoff Spencer and the return of Sandra Woods. Jeff Starratt, also new, had an opportunity to officiate a game at the Atlantic Classic (men’s) and because there was no women’s division, two rookies on the panel, Jennifer Lloyd and Stephanie McNeil, did not get an opportunity to get their feet wet. There are a couple of officials that now have their level 2 and may be coming on to the panel in the fall. I attended all three sites on a number of occasions and had pre and post game discussions at least once with each official . Once again I found the game reports to be a valuable tool for evaluating and received pretty well all game reports. Thanks to the crew chiefs. I also had an opportunity to video a couple of games and gave the tape results to Greg Parsons and Paul Debelie and to Geoff Spencer. I hope to make further use of this again next season. For those that requested , I gave some feedback in written form through email.
Speaking of next season, I hope that everyone works hard and look for an opportunity to make it too a National Championship as the NSAC will be hosting the women’s CCAA Nationals with the possibility of Nova Scotia getting 4 assignments. Also under the new contract game fees will increase to $60.00 a game up from $55.00. Before the start of the league schedule this fall, Reg and I will be meeting with Judy and Neil to iron out a few things with regard to playoff and National selections. For the most part, they have been very pleased with the way our operation functions. And finally, I want to give special thanks to Reg Caulfield for the long hours of personal and phone conversations with myself, Judy , Neil, and Sam that makes this relationship with the ACAA work as well as it does. And to Paul Hanson for keeping the financial picture on the straight and narrow and Reg Jewkes and John Fanning for their valuable assistance in co-operation with the scheduling among the three leagues.
Respectively
