ACAA COMMISSIONER’S REPORT 2010/11
Another season of ACAA basketball has been put in the books and overall, another fine job done by all 29 officials. We had a clinic early in the year in Truro to identify 8 officials looking for an opportunity to obtain their Level 3. Three of those officials were observed at the McDermott Tournament in January and Nichole Phipps and Matt Boyle received their Level 3 and will be working on the ACAA panel next year. I attended a number of games at all three sites and did some pre and post game observations. We had one major incident involving the men’s coach from Holland College which was looked after by the league disciplinary committee. The Mount Saint Vincent University hosted the league playoffs and we had 6 officials selected to participate: Jennifer MacKenzie, Ryan Lutes, Wendell Skeir, Reg Jewkes, Darren Dahl, and Dave McGratton. Ryan and Jennifer worked the women’s final and Dave and Reg along with Guy McIsaac did the men’s championship. Dave attended the Men’s Nationals and was selected for the championship game and Ryan was the League representative at the women’s Nationals. Congratulations to all those that officiated these playoffs and I might add, a job well done. All officials received their game fees after the 1st block and again at season’s end in a timely manner thanks to Paul Hanson. This being my final year as commissioner, I would like to thank all the officials for your fine work on and off the floor during the past 6 years and for your patience and understanding at times during all the switches and changes that were and had to be made. I hope that I was able to help you in some way with your game whether it was with mechanics or on floor presentation. I want to thank Paul Hanson, Roger Caulfield and Reg Jewkes for their help along the way and especially to my right hand man and league meeting partner Reg Caulfield who has , with his wisdom and repose , made for the best of relations with the ACAA and in particular with the convenors, Judy Smith and Neil Hopper. I certainly hope that the new commissioner will continue this much needed tie with the league convenors and AD’s .
