ACAA Report

During the 2004-2005 I was able to visit all sites a minimum of two times.  Throughout the year I saw all ACAA officials work at least one game.  The majority of officials were seen 2 or more times.  The Atlantic Coast Classic was a  extremely valuable instrument in the assessment process.

Having the flexibility to move officials around to various sites made it possible  for a number of positive things to happen: 1. Helped assist in creating appropriate match-ups, 2. Allowed qualified officials outside the Truro and Metro areas to work the league, 3. Provided more opportunity for the commissioner to see officials, 4. Helped with the professional develop of officials within the league.

During my visit to the various sites I was able to have pre-game and post game conferences with most officials. In some cases we were able to video games to help with the evaluation.  Video is a very useful tool in assessment.  I would like to recommend that a video be prepared for all games to be used for both player and official development.

I did find the assigning process more demanding than I had anticipated.  This year we had numerous assignment changes do to injury, sickness, and other unexpected circumstances.

In conclusion I would like to state that I feel the creation of the ACAA Commissioner has been a positive step for both the league and the officials. I certainly would be interested in applying for the position next year should the league see it as a worthwhile endeavor.
