Provincial Assessor’s

Spring Report

The AUS and ACAA officials started the year of at Brookfield High School with an intensive one day clinic.

I conducted a clinic in the South Shore with about 15 officials.  The main focus of the clinic was two person Federation Mechanics and the new rules changes for 2005-06.  We began with a classroom session and then each participant refereed a 10 -15 minute time slot with each session being put on video tape.  Post game meetings were held after each time slot.  Thanks to Gary Masson for his initiative in organizing this event and preparing CD's of the officials floor work.

A mechanics clinic was conducted at the North Nova High School for Pictou area officials.  We spend an evening working on Two Person Federation Mechanics.

A number of officials from outside the Truro were assigned games at CEC and NSAC for evaluation purposes.  I had the opportunity to see two young upcoming officials for the first time through this process.  Geoff Spencer and Stephanie McNeil who worked games at the Snowball tournament received positive assessments. Keith Finck continues to be instrumental in official development in our province by provided these opportunities for officials.  A number of other officials coming into our area for games were Shane Hennigan, Mary Alice Butts, and Greg Parsons.  Unfortunately Bill Burns and new official in the Cape Breton area could not come due to weather conditions.

The ACAA and AUS tournaments provided me an opportunity to see our elite officials a number of times.  Feedback was provided during the post game meetings. I also attended a number of league games in both of these leagues. Feedback in the form of game reports in these two leagues proved to be extremely valuable.  Many thanks to John Fanning, Keith Finck and Reg Caulfield for their assistance with feedback on officials from the various games they attended. Having people of this caliber consistently attending games and providing input certainly helps in the overall assessment of the officials in our board.

We have had one successful candidate achieve their Level two certification this year: Geoff Spencer.  Geoff is an outstanding young official that we anticipate will develop into one of our elite referees.  Congratulations Geoff!!

Darren Dahl completed the first leg of his Level 2 certification by receiving a positive evaluation at the NSSAF Division 1 Girl’s Championship which included a recommendation for the Division Boys Tournament next year.

Thank you to all officials who made themselves available for the NSSAF Provincial Championships. This event was a tremendous success again this year due to the hard work of the members in our board. A special thanks to A/E’s for making this experience both educational and positive for all officials. I look forward to your participation again next year. A JOB WELL DONE!!
