AUS Commissioner’s Report

Let me begin this report by stating that the Nova Scotia officials at the AUS level are among the top officials in Canada. Our crews consistently demonstrate professionalism, hustle and quality judgment. Although I receive many emails from coaches with specific concerns they all agree that overall our panel does a tremendous job.

It is important to note that a number of senior officials are coming to the end of their officiating career.  We will certainly have quite a change in the panel over the next five years.  I would like to encourage officials wanting to move into the crew chief status to make every attempt to allow these senior people to mentor them in the next few years. The senior guys continue to demonstrate they belong through their quality officiating.

To date we have had applications for next year’s panel by Darren Dahl and Jeff Starratt. Both of these officials had top-notch performances at the Division 1 Boys Provincial tournament earning their Level 2 status. They should be excellent additions to our panel.

The fall will be a very busy time for our AUS officials with the change from CIS rules to FIBA rules. All officials should be working the FIBA game throughout the summer months. It will be critical for us to be prepared as this is a major change for University Men’s basketball.

Congratulations to Reg Caulfield and Jon Hunt for their performance at AUS Play-offs.   Both officials were selected to work the Championship Game.

Congratulations to Reg Caulfield for his success at CIS where he worked the Consolation Final.
