Send best people to national tournaments - not people who we feel must be rewarded.

CABO Evaluators will be assigning the best available officials to the best games, regardless of gender.  The CIS is in full agreement with this philosophy.

Ø      CABO and Canada Basketball Relationship:

There seems to be no signed agreement in place.  Some problems exist in the relationship between the two organizations.  A lot of discussion concerning officials who attended summer tournaments and did not receive a game fee, etc.  These problems need to be rectified.  A motion was made concerning the above.

Ø      CCAA Relationship:

Coaches are requesting input into the actual game assignments during the CCAA national tournaments.  CABO needs to meet with the CCAA and discuss this issue.  Our plan is to follow the CIS guidelines.

In 2003 the women's tournament is in Truro, and the men are in Québec.

Ø      CABO Camp:

Huge success - 52 attended - will be in Montreal again next year. This year there were 6 CABO camp scholarships - next year this number may be increased to one per province.

Ø      National Tournaments:

Black and white striped shirts will be worn for all national tournaments employing CIS men's rules.

Ø      National Evaluators:

A suggestion was made to have a national evaluators meeting in conjunction with the CABO camp.

Ø      3-Person Crew for AUS Women:

John Walsh, Provincial Supervisor, Newfoundland, has been working on a tentative agreement.  Feedback is required from each province concerning acceptable rates.

Ø      Objectives 2002/03 Season:

Obtain the services of senior/retired officials who have the tools and skills to support the development and mentoring of new officials.

Increase our involvement/attendance at the CABO Officials' Camp in Montreal.

Emphasis will be placed on improving collaboration among all of our partners.

Continue efforts to recruit and retain young new officials who have the potential for advancement and growth (with an emphasis on female officials).

Complete contract negotiations with ACAA, NSSAF and Basketball Nova Scotia.

Develop criteria and adopt best practices in the selection and assigning of officials working the University panel.

Improve our effectiveness in managing unruly parents, fans and players who bring shame/embarrassment to the sport of basketball.
