Area Report-Cape Breton

Once again a very busy basketball season has come to an end.  At this time I would like to congratulate each official on a very successful basketball season.  In particular, congratulations go out to Doug MacDougall, Mary Alice Butts and Gerard Aucoin on being selected for a provincial tournament this season.  Attending a provincial tournament reflects official’s capabilities and is a very good developmental process.

This season we had 29 active officials in our area.  This number is down from 53 officials last season.  This decrease is a major concern for our local executive and is currently working on recruiting new officials to our area.

Our local board has agreed to provide a male and female sportsmanship award for the division 1 league.  This award will consist of a plaque and a $100.00 scholarship.

At this time I would like to thank our junior assignors for their dedication over the past number of years.  Both assignors are finished in this position and the executive is currently taking applications for this position.

I would like to thank each of our local officials on working hard to give your best effort possible each time you walk on to the court.  I look forward to working with each of you next season.
