Truro Area supervisor Report
May 15/05
In the Truro area this season, things ran very smoothly. Our local clinics were very well attended. We were able to attract a couple of new officials. One of the new people was a female, however, although she completed the sessions and wrote the exam she did not follow through and work any games for us. In addition, another female that worked a full schedule for us the past two years was unable to work due to family commitments. It continues to be very difficult to attract and keep new female officials.
Our crews made a commitment to spent extra time before each games going over the new rules and mechanics. I feel by mid January most of our local area officials had a reasonable feel for the new system. The senior members all chipped in helping less experienced officials with the new rules and mechanics. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the efforts Peter Caulfield put into helping the younger officials with their game this season. He did an excellent job reviewing rules and mechanics with all partners in both post and pre-game talks. I received numerous comments from our local people stating how helpful this was for them.
We continue to have a reasonable number of games in our area. The number of officials we presently have work hard to make sure all games are adequately covered, however, there are times when we need to get help outside our area to service games. Thanks to all officials who helped in our area this year. Our area also, brings officials in to assist with mentoring and professional development. Keith Finck is very receptive to this concept and always does all he can to accommodate my requests in this area. Thanks to Keith for his continued commitment in the development of officials within and outside our area.
In closing, I would like to say that our area continues to work hard at improving the quality of officiating. The crew is very dedicated and rarely refuses an assignment if Keith needs their services. This season has one of the best in my 27 years of officiating in this area.
