-          Served as a great component for all NSBO members as the presentation talked about sensitivity training, how to deal with perceived areas of racism and race relations in general.

-          The rights of all humans were discussed and Nicol said any person who has issues of this nature is asked to contact the Human Rights Commission for advice.

7 – Correspondence - none

8 - Reports – See Web Site for those submitted.

- Irvine Carvery spoke to the need of putting a process in place to help to attract and retain African Canadian Officials, in addition to females, Aboriginals, etc. – the visible minorities. He asked the president to look into forming an initiative similar to the camp held last summer to train female officials.

- Reg Caulfield talked about the importance of Area Assignors and Supervisors working together on important issues. This includes supervisors and assignors working on the same page to ensure officials who have been identified for development are given the proper amount of assignments and partners who can help to develop those officials. Identifying problem areas or difficult games in advance is also an issue and Caulfield asked that all assignors be cognizant of what officials are put in those games. This will ensure the coverage of the game is solid and alleviate any additional problems that could arise.

9    - Matters arising from the minutes – None.

10   - A.  Motion Withdrawn – Recommends a policy needs to be in place dealing with leagues not sanctioned by BNS.

B.  Moved NSBO members join BNS at a cost of $10.  Moved by Jon Hunt 2nd by Roger Caulfield – Motion Passed

C.  Insurance Update – After researching insurance issue and how the policy could be set up to cover all of the leagues we officiate, Sam learned this was not possible without a great cost to all officials. It was hoped, through dialogue with British Columbia, NSBO could be added to the BNS policy as a partner and this would cover all officials. After talking with AllSport representatives, this could not happen this it was recommended we look at re-joining BNS to take advantage of their policy for a portion of the games we cover. The idea is that something is better than nothing and if you have partial coverage, then your liability issues are reduced greatly.

D.  Sam gave an update to the PD Fund. There were several changes made to the policy to have it reflect the general membership of NSBO and the current needs and requirements of the members. The breakdown of funds would see 60 per cent of money go to individual initiatives and 40 per cent to province wide initiatives. Half of the operating surpluses would be allocated to the PD fund for use in this fashion. It was determined an annual amount of $1,500 should be available through membership fees but could vary depending on membership numbers. Those wishing to apply can do so on the web site. Application review, allocation and judging criteria are also available on the web site.

C.  Area Supervisors / area assignors roles – Sam outlined information regarding these positions. Sam spoke about the importance of area supervisors to get out and see officials work to provide them with proper feedback. This comment comes after hearing from many officials who say they are not receiving enough feedback to advance their games if any feedback at all. Sam asked supervisors, assignors and veteran officials to lend a hand in this process and that all of these people need to be leaders in the organization. They are elected by the people of each region and it is incumbent they do the job they were elected to do.
