- Irvine Carvery spoke to the need of
putting a process in place to help to attract and retain African Canadian

He asked the president to look into forming an initiative similar to the camp
held last summer to train female officials.
- Reg Caulfield talked about the
importance of Area Assignors and Supervisors working together on important
issues. This includes supervisors and assignors working on the same page to
ensure officials who have been identified for development are given the proper
amount of assignments and partners who can help to develop those officials.
Identifying problem areas or difficult games in advance is also an issue and
Caulfield asked that all assignors be cognizant of what officials are put in
those games. This will ensure the coverage of the game is solid and alleviate
any additional problems that could arise.

Insurance
Update After researching insurance issue and how the policy could be set up to
cover all of the leagues we officiate, Sam learned this was not possible without
a great cost to all officials. It was hoped, through dialogue with
D.
Sam gave an
update to the PD Fund. There were several changes made to the policy to have it
reflect the general membership of NSBO and the current needs and requirements of
the members. The breakdown of funds would see 60 per cent of money go to
individual initiatives and 40 per cent to province wide initiatives. Half of the
operating surpluses would be allocated to the PD fund for use in this fashion.
It was determined an annual amount of $1,500 should be available through
membership fees but could vary depending on membership numbers. Those wishing to
apply can do so on the web site. Application review, allocation and judging
criteria are also available on the web site.

Area
Supervisors / area assignors roles Sam outlined information regarding these
positions. Sam spoke about the importance of area supervisors to get out and see
officials work to provide them with proper feedback. This comment comes after
hearing from many officials who say they are not receiving enough feedback to
advance their games if any feedback at all. Sam asked supervisors, assignors and
veteran officials to lend a hand in this process and that all of these people
need to be leaders in the organization. They are elected by the people of each
region and it is incumbent they do the job they were elected to do.
