BACKOVER 2010

The rule change pertaining to the backover call is whole man and ball. All 3 points must be in the frontcourt to have frontcourt status.

The player jumping from his front court and establishing a new team control in the air (interception or gaining control after the tap on the initial jump ball), may land in his back court or straddling the line. If player is straddling, it is legal to start a dribble in the back court and may pass the ball into the backcourt.  But if an Airborne player passes to a team mate in the back court or a team mate who is straddling division line --- Backover !

Situations

(1) A1 dribbles to midcourt and picks the ball up straddling division

line- back foot is pivot foot and is in back court- A1 pivots (steps) into the back court with his front foot?- legal !

(2) Same situation- A1 , who is still straddling center line, passes the ball to A2 who is straddling center line --legal !

(3) A1 passes ball from back court to A2 who is straddling center line- legal- A2 now takes 1 dribble without moving?- legal
