Interpreter's Report September 2007
Nova Scotia Basketball will be officiated under FIBA rules with very few
modifications. The FIBA rules will see NSSAF and BNS play with a ten-second back
court and a thirty-second shot clock. The junior high games will have four
eight-minute quarters. The time limits between quarters will be one minute with
a ten-minute half-time. For the coming season, it is imperative that we elimiate
unnecessary players huddling and show extreme patience with table officials and
coaches during time-out requests. Dead-ball delays must be kept to a minimum.
The college and university games will be called by the FIBA rules with the
exception that matching tee-shirts are legal, plus there will be no application
of the FIBA pre-game protocol.
Our dress code will be the same as last year. Special shirts may be required for
National tournaments. Please use Honig's (1-800-560-6680) out of Ontario for
pants and shoes.
Information pertaining to rules, mechanics and signals can be found on our
web-site: www.nsbo.ca. Exams will be emailed to you and they must be completed
by the first week of December. Any clinics completed should be approved by my
office.
Finally, your NSBO executive's and our clients' expectations are that all
officials will be fully inserviced in the FIBA game. It is of utmost importance
that grassroot development is being done by all area supervisors. I will keep
everyone updated through the Interpreter's Corner.
Have a great season and feel free to contact me at any time.
Nova Scotia Interpreter,
Roger Caulfield
