METRO AREA BASKETBALL OFFICIALS

ANNUAL REPORT – May, 2005   

MABO had another successful year in 2004-2005 Total membership was 110 officials including 23 newcomers. These new officials qualified through our 4-week certification process followed up by the mechanics schools. MABO conducted its 3rd annual Christmas Clinic and this year it was mandatory for all Pre-Level 1 officials. To continue the emphasis on development, we created the new position of Minor Supervisor whose responsibility was to be a presence at MBA basketball games and to evaluate P-1’s.

Again this year, a large part of the MABO Supervisor’s job required dealing with the reporting of no less than 18 player and/or coach ejections, along with numerous other complaints. Unfortunately, also needing to be dealt with were 2 reports against MABO officials which both resulted in sanctions.

Congratulations go out to Jon Hunt for successfully obtaining his FIBA card – also to Darrell Evasuk and Dan MacDonald for successfully earning their Level 1 certification and to Ken Fells & Erin Schaus for acquiring Level 2. MABO also had 12 members selected to work at the 2005 NSSAF Championships. Recognition goes to Jon Hunt for his assignment to the CIS Men’s championships in Halifax, to Paul Hanson for his selection to the CIS Women’s in Winnipeg, and to David McGrattan for being assigned the CCAA Men’s championships in Edmonton.

MABO also would like to acknowledge Ted Wallace on his retirement and thank him for his many contributions and accomplishments to MABO and NSBO over the years.
