NSBO President’s Report

2004 Fall GM

October 3, 2004

Welcome to the 2004 Fall General Meeting of NSBO. Thanks to Reg Jewkes, Keith Finck and the rest of the Colchester members for their hospitality and their assistance with yesterday’s clinic.

1.      Congratulations:

Congratulations to the following NSBO members who were active in the “off” season:

Assignor /Evaluator

Reg Jewkes, Colchester

Additionally, Roger Caulfield, Valley East officiated at the FIBA U21 Men’s Tournament of the Americas in Halifax. This marked Roger’s last international assignment after a stellar career. NSBO hosted a small gathering of CABO and FIBA dignitaries to mark the occasion during the tournament.

 2.      Rules:

As you are aware new rules and mechanics are now in place for play in NS. It is imperative that all members receive the appropriate training on these initiatives. Many of you will have attended the clinic on October 2, here in the Truro area. The remainder of NSBO officials should ensure they avail themselves of one of the clinics run in our 10 local areas.

3.      AUS Selection Process:

The AUS list for 2004/2005 has now been set. Many thanks to Sandra Wood, Larry Collins and Nick Morash who are no longer officiating at the AUS level. Congratulations to new members Geoff Neagle (Metro), Jeff Smith (Metro) and a warm welcome back to Tom Thompson (South Shore) who is returning after a 1-year leave of absence.

4.      CABO AGM:

Reg Caulfield and myself represented NSBO at the CABO AGM on September 17 – 19 in Vancouver. This was my first experience at the National meetings and I was very impressed by the professionalism and commitment of all provinces to furthering basketball officiating throughout the country. The highlights will be covered later in the agenda.

During the AGM Reg and I were approached about NSBO possibly hosting the CABO AGM in 2005. We will discuss this later in the meeting but I would suggest this is long overdue for our province.

5.      Code of Conduct:

Al members should be familiar with the NSBO Code of Conduct adopted at last Spring’s GM. It is on the website and copies are available at this meeting. It is crucial that NSBO, as an organization, continues to demonstrate high standards of professionalism and maturity during our interactions with our clients, the public and one another.

Have a great season, enjoy the new rules and mechanics, and if you have concerns or suggestions please share them with your Area Supervisor or a member of the Executive.
