NSBO President’s Report

2005 Spring GM

May 15, 2005

Welcome to the 2005 Spring General Meeting of NSBO. Thanks to Roger Caulfield, Al King and the rest of the Valley East members for their hospitality.

1.      Congratulations:

The major initiative this season was the implementation of CIS rules and Federation 2 – person mechanics. This very extensive process went very smoothly. Thanks to all members for their support and energy. In particular, thanks to Roger Caulfield and Paul Hanson for looking after the educational aspects of this major change.

Congratulations to all officials who have received their Level II certification and will be announced later today.

Congratulations to Colchester assignor Keith Finck who recently worked his 3000th game! (I wonder if he paid himself 10% for all of them … haha!)

Congratulations to NSBO officials who represented our organization at BNS, high school, college and university championships … we received tremendous feedback from all clients this year!

Congratulations to Ted Wallace on his retirement from officiating and as the AUS Women’s Commissioner. Ted has had an unbelievable career, highlighted by appearances at numerous CCAA and AUS championships. Ted has also had a major impact on other officials through his tireless work as an evaluator and clinician. On a personal note I will miss working with Ted, both on and off the floor … he has been a tremendous teacher for me along the way – thanks!

2.      Rules:

Unfortunately it appears that we may be struck by Murphy’s law with regards to the changeover to CIS rules. The new regime at Canada Basketball (led by CEO Fred Nykamp) is pushing to have all games in Canada played under FIBA rules. CB has met with the CIS, CCAA, PSO’s, and the National High School Federation to promote this initiative. It appears that this may well happen. The implementation date will be either September 06 or 07. We will await further direction from CABO/CB on this.

3.      CABO AGM:

NSBO has been asked to host the 2005 CABO GM in September. We should nominate a Committee to look after this at today’s meeting.

4.      Code of Conduct:

All members should be familiar with the NSBO Code of Conduct adopted at last Spring’s GM. It is on the website. It is crucial that NSBO, as an organization, continues to demonstrate high standards of professionalism and maturity during our interactions with our clients, the public and one another.

5.      Executive

Once again I would like to thank the Executive members for their work on behalf of NSBO. I am not reoffering as President. Thanks to all members for their support over my 6 years on the Executive.
