NSBO REPORT 2008-2009

SOUTH SHORE

Our season began with a fall clinic with Roger. It was well attended and we enjoyed the session and the pizza. We had 23 members register which is down from the 28 who registered in 2007-2008.

A clinic in November 2008 for new officials was held at Bridgewater High School. Darren Dahl instructed 8 individuals over three evening sessions.

Two of those attending joined our Association. The remainder were players and coaches wishing to learn the game from an officiating perspective.

Recruitment and retention are our major issues.

The number of assignments were relatively the same as in 2007-2008 which saw a decline of 15% from 2006-2007. Several schools did not again have teams and other schools reduced the number of tournaments they hosted. Attracting teams from outside the region has become an issue. Travel costs seem to be the concern.

Dave Winaut did a great job as our assignor. Our members were very pleased with his assigning and hope he will be willing to take on the position for another term.

Barry Crozier was our evaluator again this past season and several of our members were evaluated. Barry is very positive and professional in carrying out this important position.

Three of our members were chosen to officiate at Provincials this year with two of them officiating in championship games.

We concluded the season with a meeting/social in May to reflect on the past season and to get feed back from the members . We discussed our strengths and weaknesses and how we can improve as individuals and as an association.

Overall our season went smoothly with no major disciplinary actions required.

I was honoured to be voted in for another two year term as Area Supervisor and look forward to working with our members and the Provincial Executive.
