Spring 2009

Vice Presidents Report

Basketball officiating in the province of Nova Scotia continues to improve thanks, in no small part, to the tireless efforts of individuals who strive to be their best. Successful clinics were held in most regions of the province in the fall of 2008 and this helped to get us all closer to being on the same page.

An area that we as officials have to continue to focus on is the completion of incident reports surrounding ejections of any kind as well as the reporting of technical fouls that are assessed to players and coaches. This system allows NSBO, BNS, MABO, NSSAF, etc. to track the behavior of its members and to have the documentation necessary readily at hand in instances that may require disciplinary action.

In January, I had the pleasure of presenting the Frank Baldwin Award, on behalf of NSBO, to Mr. Hughie Bruce. It was indeed my pleasure to present this award to Hughie at an Acadia game in front of many of his friends, family, and members of the basketball community. He felt honored by the recognition and wished that I extend my sincere thanks on his behalf to all in NSBO.

I would like to wish all officials a successful season in 2009/2010.

Work hard, be accountable, and study the game.

Yours in Basketball,

AL KING

VICE PRESIDENT
