Vice-Presidents Report
Fall AGM/2007
During our Fall AGM in October, the following advice was issued:
The beginning of another busy basketball season is upon us and I trust that all are ready and eager to give a 100% commitment to each and every game officiated in this province. I urge you to be professional at all times and to be cognizant of your responsibilities to the game and to NSBO.
In every basketball game played in this province, we as basketball officials bare the burden of responsibility: a responsibility to ensure that games are well managed and played fairly within the confines of the rules. We do our very best in working with coaches and players to achieve this goal. From time to time, incidents occur outside the intent of the rules and must be dealt with.
The Result:
I have been exceptionally impressed with the performance of our NSBO members over this past playing season. A total of 62 incidents were reported to my office – the majority of which involved the application of technical fouls. We are consistently applying the rules throughout the province and doing an exceptional job of remaining professional when the going gets tough!
One area of concern, as identified in about a dozen reports, centers around our behavior as officials when we are acting in another capacity, whether it be as a fan or as a coach. Remember, as an official in this province, it is our responsibility to attend basketball games, regardless of our role in that game, and not present a conflict of interest – we must remain neutral and not comment on the officiating!
Thanks for a great season!
