Vice President's Report - Spring 2006 AGM

In every basketball game played in this province, we as basketball officials bare the burden of responsibility: a responsibility to ensure that games are well managed and played fairly within the confines of the rules. We do our very best in working with coaches and players to achieve this goal. From time to time, incidents occur outside the intent of the rules and must be dealt with.

As Vice-President and chair of the discipline committee, I have created a database of such incidents occurring throughout the province for both NSSAF and BNS games. This information helps to paint a clear picture of any trouble spots in our sport throughout the province – we are able to track the behavior of players and coaches as well as have vital information for when one of our own makes an error and discipline may be required.

In the past playing season, 53 reports were received regarding NSSAF contests along with 17 BNS reports.

In the 70 cases, only 2 resulted in any discipline of an NSBO member – we are doing a fabulous job across the board of game management!!

Some regions are doing a better job of this documentation than others. Please have officials in your area complete an incident report found on our website for all ‘technical foul’ infractions that occur.

Thanks for an excellent basketball season.
